About The Red Lion Pub in Kegworth
The Red Lion is a country pub, flagship alehouse, and the beating heart of Kegworth. A firm favourite with locals, students and visitors alike, the Georgian building dates back to the 17th century. Use as a public house and coaching inn first appeared in 1870. The pub was also a regular meeting space for the Nottingham Oddfellows Friendly Society, known as Lodge 28.
In the 1930s, a circus lion was encaged in the garden. These days, you’re more likely to find enthusiastic Pétanque players! Over the years, there have been numerous tenants, and the pub also has a reputation for ghostly encounters. Some locals say the building is haunted by the spirit of “Mrs Daniels”, a landlady who ran the pub for 40 years in the early 1900s. In 2020, strange activities were reported by regulars after renovation work was carried out.
Meet the Team
Vanessa Gage
Manager
As the proud landlady since 2019, my aim is to serve perfectly poured drinks, so people want to come back. I joined the team in April 2016, and I still can’t believe I’m running my local pub! I take great pride in our beer garden, which always looks marvellous whether it’s summer or winter. I love interacting with customers and striking up conversations with strangers, making them feel at ease and getting all the real ales just right. I also arrange the events and stage for performers, and I enjoy seeing everyone come together. My team know and love their jobs here at The Red Lion pub in Kegworth.
